Virus protection by sealing

Did you know that sealing baggage also protects you from viruses and bacteria?

Yes, it is true indeed. No, we do not want to misuse the COVID-19 pandemic. This is something we already knew but no one cared about, that is why we did not promote this earlier.

Our customers cared about protection from damage, bursting open, smuggling drugs, theft and getting lost, not about the hygiene aspect. That has changed because of COVID-19.

What is the most unhygienic place of the entire airport?

No, it is not the floor. Not even the toilets. The correct answer is…
…your fellow-passenger’s baggage!

At places like the baggage belt, baggage transport cart and in the belly of the plane, your baggage will be in direct contact of other people’s baggage. There, bacteria and viruses can easily jump from one baggage item to another and pose a risk of contamination.

Disinfection before sealing

Before we seal your baggage, we thoroughly disinfect the baggage using a disinfectant spray. By doing this, we make sure no bacteria and viruses will enter the sealing machine. Our staff only handles the baggage with gloves. We always keep 1.5 meters away from our customers and, of course, we oblige our employees to stay at home when they are sick.

Sealing at 140 degrees Celsius

To be able to seal (melt the foil around the baggage), the temperature of our sealing machines will rise up to 140 degrees Celsius. According the World Health Organization (WHO), the COVID-19 virus can be killed at 56 to 65 degrees Celsius (132.8 to 149 degrees Fahrenheit). Meaning, the temperature in our seal machine will kill bacteria and viruses. Of course, it requires a certain amount of time before the virus is actually killed. That is why we can state that sealing baggage at 140 degrees Celsius will contribute to killing bacteria and viruses that stick on the outer side of the baggage (suitcase shell, fabric of the bag or cardboard of the box).

Cracks and slits

Cracks and slits in suitcases and backpacks allow bacteria and viruses to even penetrate to the contents of your baggage. By sealing  your baggage, those bacteria and viruses do not stick directly on to your suitcase, backpack, stroller or golf bag, but on the foil. And cracks and slits are securely closed. Viruses and bacteria will not be able to enter your suitcase or backpack.

Free alcohol pad*

To provide some extra hygiene, every sealing comes with a free alcohol pad. Use this pad to lift your baggage from the baggage belt when you arrive at the airport of your destination. Clean your handle before usage and safely carry your baggage through the airport. (*Only applies at some of our locations, e.g. Amsterdam Airport Schiphol)

Disinfection after sealing

After we have sealed the baggage, we will disinfect the baggage once more and clean the handle before we return it. Just to be sure.

How to remove the foil

Do not remove the foil until you have arrived at your final destination. This way, your baggage will stay protected against theft, damage, getting lost, bursting open, viruses, bacteria, dirt and bad weather, also during your taxi or bus ride. Remove the foil at your final destination (e.g. your hotel room) and wash your hands thoroughly.

Our foil is 100% recyclable. That is why we ask you to deposit the used foil in a plastic waste bin, so the foil can be recycled. This way, we do not only keep it safe, but we also protect the environment.
